Welcome to
our harbour town.

Ryo & Maria

Hello — we're Ryo and Maria.

We married in Nagoya on 22 February 2022 and left for a working holiday in the UK. From our home in Bristol we took night buses through a whole December of Christmas markets, hunted vintage nutcrackers in antique shops, and walked more cities together than we can count.

What stayed with us most was never the famous sight. It was the dish a stranger at our shared table told us to order, the café we wandered into, the bookshop in a town we didn't know.

Now we live in Kesennuma, on Miyagi's Sanriku coast — our second year here. On the inner bay we opened Hamarain BOOKS, a shelf-share bookshop where anyone can become a bookseller.

We were travellers once. Now we'd love to show you what we've come to love about this town — not a checklist of sights, but a day of wandering in.
